"Emerging Technology Acceleration with CalTIP Grants"; Presenter: Cliff Numark
The session's first speaker will provide an introduction to the California Technology Investment Partnership matching grant program (CalTIP). CalTIP accelerates the commercialization of emerging technologies while helping California companies compete nationally for federal research and development awards. Mr. Numark will present an overview of CalTIP basics, proposals, eligibility requirements, and the matching grants which are available to support projects that leverage private sector, federal and state resources to create new, globally competitive, commercial products and services. Cal TIP is administered by the Division of Science, Technology and Innovation Division within the California Technology, Trade & Commerce Agency.
Cliff Numark is a Consultant with O'Melveny Consulting, a business consulting subsidiary of the international law firm of O'Melveny & Myers.
"SBIR/STTR Funding Opportu"NIH"ities at the National Institutes of Health"; Presenter: Jo Anne Goodnight
This presentation will provide an overview of the SBIR/STTR programs of the Federal Government, with particular emphasis on the unique features of the NIH SBIR/STTR programs. Ms. Goodnight will describe updates on the programs and how the programs are instrumental in moving technology to the marketplace. This session is intended for individuals who are new to the SBIR/STTR Programs and also for experienced SBIR/STTR awardees. At the end of this session, attendees will have a general understanding of the SBIR/STTR programs, the similarities and differences among the participating agencies, recent changes in the programs and the contact points within each agency to obtain additional information on small business funding opportunities.
Jo Anne Goodnight holds the position of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program Coordinator of the Public Health Service and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
"Understanding the Grant Cycle"; Presenter: Richard Meyst
Richard Meyst will close the session by providing insight into the grant process from the viewpoint of a grantee. Mr. Meyst is currently the Principal Investigator for an ongoing National Institutes of Health grant to develop a blood collection device that has also been awarded three US Patents. He will share his knowledge gained through the experiences of writing, researching and managing this grant as well as his insights acquired providing expert support to other Phase 1 and Phase 2 grantees as an advisor and subcontractor.
He is a Principal and Vice President of Fallbrook Engineering.
